Pacaya Volcano:
45 kilometres south of Guatemala City, by the Pacific Highway, crossing to
San Vicente Pacaya and follow 15 kilometres of non-paved road you can reach to the 2500 masl Pacaya Volcano, which is always on activity. Local guides can be hired to take visitors to the crater itself.
The Pacaya is part of a irregular volcanic plateau that have several peaks among the following: Cerro Grande "Big Mountain" (2500 masl), Hoja de Queso "Layer of Cheese" (2090 masl). Between Cerro Grande and Hoja de Queso is the Laguna de Calderas "Boiler Lagoon" at 1788 masl. To the north is the Cerro Limon "Lemon Mountain" (1680 masl) and near to the south shores of the Lago de Amatitlan (Amatitlan Lake) is the Cerro de la Mariposa "Butterfly Mountain" (1630 masl).
Antennas of several radio stations and TV channels are located in the mountainside of Cerro Chino (Chinese Peak) at 600 metres of the volcano itself.
