This is a mountainous and volcanic land. The Atitlan, San Pedro and Toliman volcanoes are south to the lake. These peaks are a popular (but no too easy) place to climb and see a spectacular panorama. There is really a fourth volcano: Cerro de Oro (Hill of Gold). This is the place, according to the indian legend, where the Tzutuhil people hide his gold treasury from the spaniard conquerors, ...but that's another story.
Atitlan is 175 kilometers from Guatemala City by a paved highway and there are good transportation services.
